Another book down, another small chunk off of my height, I'm determined to finish the first challenge before July! Another new author for me... What's that I hear you say? He's never read Conan Doyle? Nope, I haven't. But I have now!

I'm not really sure about what attracted me to this book... it's an old book, not something I've ever been too interested in... and it has a picture of some prat called Napoleon on the cover. But it sounded fun and interesting, so away I go with it.
It's essentially a collection of short stories about Colonel Etienne Gerard, a cavalry officer and devotee to the ogre that is Napoleon Bonaparte. I've never really read much from a French perspective of the Napoleonic wars, but I was pleasantly surprised.
It's not the most historically accurate of things, but then neither is Sharpe. However, I really liked the character of Gerard throughout the short stories. The books are funny and exciting. The pace in the stories are great, I didn't find myself willing them to move on when things got a bit boring.
I don't really have a huge amount to write about these stories, mainly because there are so many of them, I'd be writing forever. But I enjoyed them all. They're short, sweet and great!
